Historical Background The Shree Mariammen Tirukkovil was created 90 years back by the elders of our region. Only a stone deity representing the Holy 'Mariammen' was laid under a neem tree across the road of La Mairee- Camp Rouillard. According to our elders, the stone deity was put in 1932 beacause many children was suffering from measles. The elders them decided to pour tumeric water on the deity and this sacred water was used to bath those sick children. All the children were healed. Moreover, as a sign of thanks to the Divinity, Canjee was performed for the first time in our locality.
