Wreath Laying Ceremony to commemorate the Tamil Genocide in Sri Lanka
The Sri Lankan Civil War was an armed conflict fought on the island of Sri Lanka. Beginning on 23 July 1983, there was an intermittent insurgency against the government by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (the LTTE, also known as the Tamil Tigers), which fought to create an independent Tamil state called Tamil Eelam in the north and the east of the island.
The Stone Memorial at Plaza is dedicated to those 40,000 Tamils who lost their lives innocently and 146,679 reported lost in defence of their beloved motherland in Sri Lanka.

Dresscode
Dressing code of a Tamizhan
Old of about 5000 BC, an old living language, Tamil. IT language is one of the most beautiful languages in the world. Along with its language, Tamil has a very beautiful Dravidian dressing code. This dress code does not apply for religious ceremonies, but for every event. Along with its beauty, the Dravidian dress code has its significance and importance.
To show our humbleness towards our divine Deities, 2 to 5 metres of beautiful cloth is used for a Tamizhan to be dressed accordingly. Vesthi, for boys and men, for young girls, Paavaadai, and finally for women, Pudavai are the appropriate dress codes.
Dressing code is not only clothes worn but also some alangaaram with their importance is to be worn. Without those alangaaram our dress code is incomplete.
padtai - Sacred Ash. –Thiruneeru.
In worship connected with Sivaperumaan, wearing Thiruneeru is a symbol of purity. It contains positive energy and acts as a Kavasam (கவசம் – Kavasam- Armour). This energy protects our body from negative energies around us.
Normally, the Thiruneeru is picked up with three middle fingers of the right hand and applied such that three lines is form across the forehead (Pattai). This indicates the Trinity of Sivaperumaan in his manifestation as Brahman is the Creator of all life; Vishnu is the Protector and Rudran (Sivan) the Destroyer.
Pottu (பொட்டு) – (Sandanam- சந்தனம், Kungumam-குங்குமம்)
Sandanam Pottu and Kungumam Pottu represent the third eye and help to control the various levels of concentration. Along with this Sandanam and Kungumam Pottu add beauty to our appearance. Apart from Sandanam Pottu, There are 3 types of Kunguamam Pottu:
Karuppou Pottu (Black Pottu) – worn by young girls and sometimes by baby boys to protect them from evil eyes during their growth until they get married even then a black dot can be worn to be always protected by evil eyes.
Manjal Kungumam Pottu, Also known as Alangaaram Kungumam (dark red) – can be worn by everybody (man, girls and women). Mariammen devotees make use it more often.
Kalyaana Kungumam Pottu, Also known as Kungumam “Mauvre” (pink) – worn by married women only which represents honour, love and prosperity.

Once more on the auspicious occasion of Thaippoosam Kaavadi Thiruvizhaa 2023, the MTTF has published a booklet entitled 'Thiruppugazh Maalai' in Tamil with English Transcreation and Transliteration in Roman scripts by Annan Kadrivel Somum.
The booklet contains a collection of famous devotional Murugan songs sung by Saint Arunagirinaathar and others. Most of these popular songs are well-known to our devotees who used to sing and listen in the Kovils and at home.
This year we are fortunate to have a reputed and talented female singer in the name of Dr Vaikom Vijayalaxmi coming from South India who has launched this booklet at the seat of the MTTF at Moka on Thursday 02 February 2023 in the presence of the committed and dedicated Chairman and Executive Members of the MTTF, the Chairpersons of the Mauritius Tamil Cultural Centre Trust, Tamil Speaking Union, representatives of Tamil Socio-Cultural Organisations and devotees of Murugan.
